About Our Practice in Westlake

Darrell E. White, M.D. is the founder of Skyvision Centers. Dr. White graduated from Williams College in 1982 with a BA in biology. He then attended the University of Vermont College of Medicine, receiving his medical degree in 1986. Internship at Rhode Island Hospital (a Brown University teaching hospital) was followed by an ophthalmology residency at New York University. Dr. White’s training culminated in a year as the Executive Chief Resident in 1990.

Dr. White and his family moved to Northeast Ohio in 1991. Dr. White has been one of the preeminent ophthalmic surgeons in the area since that time. He has held numerous leadership positions including President of the Cleveland Ophthalmological Society, and Medical Director of the first excimer laser center in Northeast Ohio. Dr. White continues to be a leader among ophthalmic surgeons in the area, bringing new technologies, advanced concepts and new products to Northeast Ohio. Dr. White performed the first VISX laser PRK surgery in the Cleveland area back in 1994 and has been doing LASIK eye surgery since 1995. He performed the first Crystalens™ accommodating lens surgery for cataracts in Northeast Ohio, and continues to introduce new advanced technology lens implants from industry leading companies like Bausch & Lomb, Johnson & Johnson, and Alcon. He has performed close to 35,000 cataract surgeries!

Over the past decade his focus on the treatment of Dry Eye has made SkyVision a “Dry Eye Center of Excellence”, among of this distinction in the U. S. Dr. White is a sought- after speaker on the topic of Dry Eye. He is the leader in Northeast Ohio in the successful implementation of new technologies such as “Lipiflow” and Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) for the treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Evaporative Dry Eye. Dr. White’s expertise and insight has been invaluable in the development of many new medications that have become core treatments for Dry Eye. Dr. White enjoys being a resource for other doctors on the treatment of this exponentially increasing disease. In addition to Dry Eye treatment, Dr. White has been one of the few ophthalmologists in the area to add an in-house YAG laser for the treatment of eye floaters, called Laser Vitreolysis, as well as the more common laser treatments for
glaucoma.

Dr. White was introduced to the eye care industry as a child by his father. Dick White spent his entire working career in the optical industry. Beginning with his first job at American Optical in Southbridge Massachusetts, Dick was involved in all aspects of optical manufacturing. In the latter part of his career, Dick and his partner owned the Martin-Copland Company, one of the oldest frame manufacturers in America. Because of his unique early exposure to eye care, eye doctors, and the optical industry, Dr. White’s perspective as an ophthalmologist is truly unique.

Dr. White and his wife Beth currently live in Avon Lake and have lived in the Westshore area for over 30 years. Early in their years in Cleveland, the White family fell in love with skiing, and they have spent time together both in the mountains and on the beach all over the United States. They had settled in to “empty nesting” but now they are finding
that their “empty nest” is no longer quite so empty! Their three married children Dan, Megan, and Randy all have their own families and there are 7 grandchildren living in the area. An exciting new stage has begun, on that is filled with laughter and love with “Papi” and “Grammy”!

Dr. Gregory Kaye is a highly experienced optometrist with over 28 years of clinical expertise. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1996, after completing a Bachelor of Science in Visual Sciences in 1994. His foundational studies took place at The Ohio State University. During his training, Dr. Kaye completed clinical rotations at the Illinois Eye Institute and various externship sites, gaining extensive hands-on experience in eye care.

Dr. Kaye’s professional focus includes dry eye management, cataract and refractive surgery, ocular disease management, and contact lenses. His passion for advancing eye care is
reflected in his involvement in clinical studies with leading industry names such as Alcon, Bausch and Lomb, and Johnson & Johnson. He is committed to bringing the latest innovations
to Skyvision Centers, where he has been an original member of the team since its opening in 2005. Prior to joining Skyvision, Dr. Kaye practiced independently in retail optometry, honing his skills in patient care.

Dr. Kaye has proudly called Ohio home for his entire life and currently resides in Avon Lake with his wife, Mary. Now as empty nesters, they cherish family time with their three adult children—Adam, Andrew, and Lauren. One of their favorite traditions is their annual summer vacation to Hilton Head, where they enjoy the beach, bike rides, golf, and the occasional game of pickleball. Dr Kaye began playing golf at the age of 10 and shares his love for the sport with both of his sons, and still relishes the challenge of keeping up with them on the course.

An avid Ohio State football fan, Dr. Kaye is a proud season ticket holder, sharing this passion with his son Adam. Together, they cheer on the Buckeyes every season. Go Bucks!

Dr. Griesmer graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. She then earned her doctorate of optometry from Ohio State University in 2016, graduating with honors.

While in optometry school, she participated in numerous student organizations and activities. She has a special interest in and experience with ocular disease, co-management surgical care, and community outreach. She particularly values establishing relationships with her patients and strives to involve them in their eye care as much as possible.

As Dr. Griesmer shares, “I was drawn to SkyVision due to the friendly, technologically driven environment and their patient-oriented philosophies. I am very excited to contribute to this practice!”

Before joining SkyVision, Dr. Griesmer had the opportunity to hone her skills in comprehensive eye care in corporate practice. She is an active member of the American Optometric Association and Ohio Optometric Association. She is excited to join a highly experienced group of doctors and staff at SkyVision and is eager to serve our growing community of patients.

Dr. Griesmer lives in Rocky River with her husband, Philip, and their 2 cats. In her free time, she can be found at home, trying new recipes or visiting the Cleveland Metroparks and local libraries.

Please welcome Chad Serels, M.D. to Skyvision Centers. Dr. Serels is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive surgeon who brings a rich background in medicine and leadership to our practice.

Dr. Serels earned his Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Biology from McGill University, with minors in Economics and World Religions. He went on to receive his medical degree from the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, where he was recognized for his leadership and excellence in clinical care with multiple awards, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors Society. He then completed his Transitional Year Internship at University Hospitals in Richmond Heights, Ohio, where he served as Education Chief Resident. He then pursued his Ophthalmology Residency at the Cleveland Clinic, Cole Eye Institute and further honed his skills completing the prestigious Lindstrom Cornea and Refractive Surgery fellowship at Minnesota Eye Consultants.

Dr. Serels has made significant contributions to ophthalmology through his research. His work has been presented at conferences around the country including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), and The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS)
Dr. Serels calls Westchester New York his hometown. Outside of his professional endeavors, he is an avid hiker, enjoying annual trips to destinations such as Glacier, Banff, Sedona, and Yosemite. He is passionate about spikeball, basketball, volleyball and is recently completed his first half marathon. He is also a skilled drummer.

Dr. Rima Patel is a dedicated optometrist and proud Ohio native. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from The Ohio State University and went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Since 2012, Dr. Patel has been committed to providing thorough, personalized eye care for patients of all ages. Her clinical interests include family eye care, contact lens fittings, dry eye, and managing ocular diseases.

Dr. Patel resides in Avon Lake with her husband, Amar, and their two children. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, exploring new restaurants, and creative projects.
